Top Esports eliminates G2 to reach LoL Worlds semifinals
Top Esports booked their place in the semifinals of the 2025 League of Legends World Championships when they beat G2 Esports 3-1.
league-of-legends-116It was a match that pitted the last European team against the Chinese juggernaut. And the result is that there are now officially no more Western teams left in Worlds.
Top Esports was on point from the first click. They dominated Game 1 with 23-6 kills and Lin 'Creme' Jian got 11 kills on Akali. A strong start in Game 2 by G2 Esports bot laner Steven 'Hand Sama' Liv and a late teamfight led to them tying up the series 1-1.
Game 3 saw Top Esports take control. Bai '369' Jiahao earned a crucial triple kill on their way to grabbing Dragon Soul. In the final game, Top Esports secured Baron in the 27th minute on their way to a series win.
G2 Esports head coach Dylan Falco was proud of his charges.
"We studied their tendencies and put a lot of focus on playing through bot lane and on our early-game setups," he said.
"That really came together in Game 2. TES are a team that accelerates the game very quickly, so we prepared with that in mind and matched them well early. But once they were able to control the game and lean into poke, it became very hard for us to break through.
"Compared to previous years, we definitely took steps forward - but there's still a lot of disappointment and a few regrets left over."
Top Esports await the winner of the quarterfinal between Anyone's Legend and defending champions T1.
