Global Esports Federation opens Innovation and Research Centre in Athens
The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has expanded its international footprint with the launch of a new Innovation and Research Centre (IRC) in Athens, Greece.

Developed in collaboration with non-profit organisation Socialinnov, the facility is designed to serve as a cornerstone for strengthening the local esports ecosystem.
The IRC is envisioned as a collaborative hub, providing modern spaces that foster creativity, research, and knowledge-sharing.
Its design philosophy is centred on the idea of "unlocking human potential in the digital era," with a strong emphasis on linking esports to broader social and educational goals.
Programmes hosted at the centre will integrate esports with both education and wellness, encouraging participants to pursue balanced lifestyles while engaging with competitive gaming.
"The launch of our Innovation and Research Centre in Athens is a milestone in the GEF's journey to shape an inclusive and impactful future for esports," said Thanos Karagrounas, Chief Impact Officer at the GEF.
"By combining Socialinnov's deep expertise in digital empowerment with the GEF's international network, we will unlock new opportunities for innovation, education, and investment."
Beyond serving the Greek community, the IRC also aims to facilitate cooperation across multiple regions, positioning Athens as a strategic hub for esports innovation.
A further objective of the initiative is to highlight responsible gaming practices while opening avenues for sustainable career pathways.
