Pakistan dominates the Proteas to claim T20I series victory

Pakistan cruised to a four-wicket victory against South Africa in the third T20 International at the Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday to claim the series 2-1.

Pakistan won the toss and sent the visitors in to bat, immediately putting the Proteas on the back foot after Quinton De Kock chopped onto his stumps in the second ball of Shaheen Afridi's first over.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius was dismissed in the very next ball after flicking timidly to short fine leg Usman Tariq to leave South Africa struggling on 0/2.

Dewald Brevis joined Reeza Hendricks at the crease as the pair tried to consolidate from losing early wickets before debutant Usman Tariq forced Brevis to mistime a shot to Babar Azam.

Spinner Mohammad Nawaz produced a peach to clean bowl Matthew Breetzke with South Africa on 42/4 after 8.2 overs.

Captain Donovan Ferreira came in with postive intent, smashing a quick 29 of 14 balls including three sixes before being undone by a Faheem Ashraf slower ball, who also picked up George Linde's wicket off the very next delivery.

Top scorer Hendricks was next to fall, caught at deep mid-wicket off the bowling of Tariq with the Proteas reeling at 95/7.

Corbin Bosch was able to steer the lower order to a modest total of 139/9 following their first innings.

South Africa decided to open the bowling with spinner Ferreira and seamer Bosch, with the latter picking up the first wicket in the second over after Saim Ayub mistimed his attempted lob over mid-on.

Babar Azam and Sahibzada Farhan navigated the powerplay successfully and seemed to be pulling away from the Proteas bowlers before skipper Ferreira got Farhan caught in the deep by Breetzke.

Top scorer Azam (67) was joined by skipper Salman Ali Agha and the duo never looked back as they began to dominate the visitors attack with an unbeaten including 17 runs off Ottniel Baarman's solitary over.

The pair put on 72 runs for the fourth partnership and were seemingly cruising to victory before Agha misjudged a short delivery, popping an easy catch to Andile Simelani off Lizaad Williams.

Azam was the next to fall when he holed out to Reeza Hendricks at deep square leg from Corbin Bosch's bowling, leaving the home side needing 15 runs in 22 balls to win the match and series.

Hassan Nawaz scored an impressive four before also hooking a shot to deep square leg before Andile Simelane bowled Mohammad Nawaz for a duck with Pakistan needing six runs to win off ten balls.

Uman Khan and Faheem Ashraf were able to keep their composure and take the home side to victory with an over to spare.

The teams will now turn their attention to their three match ODI series that begins on Tuesday, November 4.
